NEET Eligibility

In accordance with the regulations framed by the Indian Medical Council, National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test [NEET2017] is conducted every year by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses.

Applicants have to fulfill the below mentioned criteria in order to apply for the exam and obtain admission thereafter.

NEET Eligibility for Age: Minimum age must be 17 years and maximum age 25 years at the time of admission or as on 31 December

NEET Eligibility for Education: For general candidates, 50% marks in XII (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology) For SC/ST/OBC, 40% marks in XII (Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology)

To qualify the entrance exam the merit list is obtained on the basis of percentile.

85% of the total seats come under the state quota. Rest 15 % are under the All India quota

Adhaar card has become compulsory for any candidate who wishes to appear in the exam

There are seven codes to ascertain the qualifications needed to apply

NEET Eligibility for Age:

i. For Indian Nationals-Minimum age should be 17 years at the time of admission or should be at least 17 years old on or before 31st December of the year of his/her admission to the MBBS course.

ii. Maximum age limit for NEET is 25 years as on 31st December and this shall be relaxed by a period of 5 years for SC/ST/OBC category.

iii. Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Foreign Nationals are eligible for NEET subject to rules & regulations framed by the respective State Governments and Govt. of India.

Educational Eligibility:

General category candidates must have secured at least 50% marks in XII or equivalent exam, 45% marks for Gen-PH category and 40% marks for SC/ST/OBC i. or SC/ST/OBC-PH category students obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology taken together in qualifying examinations.

ii. Students must have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology or any other elective subject with English.

On the basis of Highest Marks:
Case One

If Geeta has scored 295 in NEET and 396 is the highest score obtained by Ms Topper of NEET, then the percentile of Geeta will be calculated as are follows: 295 x 100/396 = 74.49

Case Two

If Rajesh has scored 175 then, 175 x 100/396 = 44.19

Neet percentile on the Basis of Rank:

If Deepti has secured Rank Fifth in NEET and had 8,00,000 students appearing for the exam, then the percentile of Deepti would be [(800000-5)/800000] x 100 = 99.99

NEET Eligibility which is Generally Applicable

I. Aadhaar card is mandatory to apply for NEET 2017 examination

II. No state eligibility criteria will be applicable the students who take admission under 15% All India Quota Scheme.

III. Number of Attempts: A maximum of three attempts.

NEET Eligibility for 85% State Quota Seats

Candidates may choose State Code(s) on the basis of his/her eligibility to claim seats under State Quota in any State. Candidate’s rank in the merit list for 85% State Quota seats will be generated on the basis of the State Code of Eligibility filled in by the Candidates in the application form.

Candidates must have completed/appearing his/her 10th and 12th from the state.

Candidate must possess a valid domicile of the state.

Candidate should possess a residency proof of the state.

NEET Eligibility for 15% All India Quota Seats

The candidate must be the citizen of India or Overseas citizen.

The candidates must be 17 years old as on or before 31st December of the year of Admission.

The criteria of upper age limit of 25 years has now removed.

The candidates who belong to Jammu & Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Are eligible to appear in the exam only to obtain admission in AFMC, Pune on the basis of self-declaration

CODE 01	Ques. Who is it for? Ans. For candidates appearing in the qualifying examination, i.e., 12th Standard, in 2017 with results being awaited. Ques. What is the condition specified by the code? Ans. These candidates can apply for NEET 2017 but they must have passed the qualifying exam with the required pass percentage at the time of first round of NEET 2017 Counselling.
CODE 02	Ques. Which exam is the code for? Ans. The Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination (which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher/Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study). Ques. What does the code specify? Ans. The last two years of education of the candidate must comprise of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology (including practical tests in these subjects) and Mathematics or any other elective subject. English should not be at a level less than the core course for English as prescribed by the NCERT.
CODE 03	Ques. Which exam is the code for? Ans. The Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science of an Indian University/Board or other recognised examining body. Ques. What does the code say? Ans. The subjects should consist of Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Bio-technology (including practical test in these subjects) and also English as a compulsory subject.
CODE 04	Ques. Which exam is the code for? Ans. The Pre-professional/Pre-medical Examination after passing either the Higher Secondary Examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent examination Ques. What does the code say? Ans. The Pre-professional/Pre-medical examination must include practical tests in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and also English as a compulsory subject.
CODE 05	Ques. Which exam is the code for? Ans. The three years’ degree course of a recognised University Ques. What does the code specify? Ans. The candidate should be in the first year of the course and his subjects must consist of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology (including practical tests in these subjects). The candidate must also have passed the earlier qualifying examination with the same subjects and with English at a level, not less than a core course.
CODE 06	Ques. Which exam does the code apply to? Ans. B.Sc. Examination of an Indian University Ques. What does the code specify? Ans. The candidate must have passed the B.Sc. Examination with not less than two of the subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Bio-technology The candidate must also have passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as his subjects.
CODE 07	Ques. Which exam does the code apply to? Ans. Any other examination which is in scope and standard equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board Ques. What does the code specify? Ans. The subjects should be Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology (including practical tests in each of these subjects) and English. The candidate must have passed any of the qualifying examinations as enumerated above or appearing in the qualifying examination in 2016. For General Category: The candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English individually. He must also have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology in the qualifying examination. For SC/ST/OBC Categories: The candidate must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology taken together in the qualifying examination.
